A Tyknit fundraiser is opened by a member who stakes their standing on it, funded on the circle’s own M-Pesa or bank rails, and reported from the ledger — so when a friend of a friend asks “is this real?”, the page answers.

How a Tyknit fundraiser works

A member opens the campaign
Education, medical, bereavement or charity. The member who opens it stakes their own standing on it — their tier is on the line if the campaign turns out to be false — so every fundraiser has a real, accountable person behind it. Circles can require a second member’s endorsement.

The circle sees it first
A campaign is visible to the circle before it is shareable. Members can ask questions in circle chat, and the officers can pause a campaign that does not add up.

Contributions land on the circle’s rails
M-Pesa, bank transfer, cards through Paystack, UPI, Pix, SEPA — money goes to the account the circle controls, never to Tyknit. Each contribution posts to the ledger with its reference.

Progress is read from the ledger
The campaign page shows what has actually landed, not what somebody typed. Anyone with the link can check it. When the target is met, the payout is a ledger entry approved by the officers.

No fee on compassion
Medical, bereavement and emergency campaigns carry a 0% platform fee, always. Other campaigns settle under the same cap as contributions (at most 0.75% on provider-settled flows).
What people raise for
School fees
Term fees due Friday, a university deposit, exam registration. The commonest ask in every chama.
Medical bills
A hospital deposit, a surgery, chemo. Compassion flows carry no fee and can be paused by officers if anything is off.
Bereavement
Funeral costs, transport home, support for the family. Burial-society rules, on a ledger.
Charity & community
A church roof, a school library, a village water point. Vouched by a member, reported from the ledger.
Why not just a crowdfunding site?
Crowdfunding platforms raise from strangers and hold the money. Tyknit raises from your circle and the people they vouch for, and never holds the money — it settles to the account the circle controls, with every contribution on a ledger the whole circle can read. The trust is imported from people who already know each other, and the platform fee on compassion campaigns is zero.
